Overview

CB&I delivers integrated storage and asset-management solutions that help customers operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. The shop Structural Welder lays out, aligns, and welds fabricated plate and structural components to assemble structural forms according to blueprints and metallurgy.

Responsibilities

  • Selects equipment and plans layouts, assembly, and welding.
  • Uses various welding processes including Gas-Metal Arc and Shielded Metal Arc.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together.
  • Bolts, clamps, and welds metal components of products.
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Connects cable from welding unit to obtain specified amperage and voltage.
  • Starts power supply to produce electric current.
  • Strikes arc to melt and deposit metal from electrode to work piece.
  • Guides electrode or gun along weld-line to form specified depth of fusion.
  • May manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal.
  • Cleans or degreases weld joint or workplace.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
  • Removes excess weld, defective weld material, slag, and spatter.
  • May preheat work piece using hand torch or heating furnace.
  • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • Loads, transports, and unloads material, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assists in lifting, positioning, and securing materials during installation.
  • Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
  • Assists other mechanics as needed.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or more.
  • Capable of certifying on single process plate being proficient in SMAW or GMAW welding processes.
  • Ability to pass specific weld tests.
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
  • Ability to work under immediate supervision.

Additional Information

  • Normal work environment will be shop or field.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, and working near moving mechanical parts.
