Responsibilities

• Lays out and locates reference lines for structural components.
• Positions and lays up parts using tooling jigs and fixtures.
• Fits, assembles, and shapes parts using various tools.
• Positions parts according to work order and blueprint specifications.
• Fastens parts together using bolts, screws, rivets, and adhesives.
• Operates drill press, hot dimpler, or riveting machine.
• Removes small quantities of metal to produce close fits between parts.
• Continuously improves the assembly process and contributes to teamwork.
• Improvises shop aids to facilitate assembly and installation.
• May perform structural repair and rework on assemblies.
• Responsible for handling and managing hazardous waste.
• Performs other duties as assigned, including leading projects.

Requirements

• H.S. Diploma or GED.
• Three years mechanical and/or structural assembly experience.
• Thorough knowledge of tools and code numbers for fasteners.
• Ability to read and interpret customer specifications and blueprints.
• Must comply with specific safety policies.
• Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.
• Basic computer skills to learn new software programs.
• Critical thinking and good decision-making skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate within the organization.
• Ability to operate a forklift.
• Ability to use measuring instruments.
