Overview
Lawrence Doors, Inc., a leader in the commercial door industry and part of the Amarr / ASSA ABLOY Group, is seeking an experienced fabrication welder to support fabrication operations in a manufacturing environment. The role involves assisting in the preparation and welding of components for assembly, requiring basic welding knowledge and a focus on skill development.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic MIG welding, grinding, plasma cutting, and general fabrication to support component preparation.
- Pick, cut, and prepare materials according to simplified fabrication sheet instructions.
- Use torch and plasma cutter to cut and modify materials as required.
- Prepare parts, fittings, and components in advance to support production flow and minimize downtime for assemblers.
- Assist in staging and organizing materials for fabrication and assembly teams.
- Operate forklifts to transport oversized materials and stage them for production.
- Read and follow simplified drawings, fabrication sheets, and work instructions to complete assigned tasks accurately.
- Perform basic inspections of prepared components to ensure they meet required dimensions and specifications.
- Maintain proper material identification and organization throughout the process.
- Accurately and timely record production data, including measurements, output, and job completion details.
Requirements
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and support shared production goals.
- Good communication skills and willingness to collaborate across functions.
- Familiarity with cutting equipment such as band saw and shear press.
- Experience with MIG welding and metal fabrication processes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and fabrication sheets.
- Experience operating forklifts (certification preferred).
- Ability to work with heavy materials and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Requires lifting (up to 50lbs), standing, and operating machinery for extended periods.
