Overview

The Welder/Pipe position at Newport News Shipbuilding requires experienced candidates to perform various welding tasks on aircraft carriers and submarines. Responsibilities

  • Perform structural and pipe welds using various welding processes.
  • Complete tack, fillet, and full penetration welding on steel foundations.
  • Satisfy all nondestructive test requirements.
  • Receive additional training in visual inspection and troubleshooting.
  • Work in various positions using manual and mechanized processes.

Requirements

  • At least one year of pipe welding experience.
  • Ability to take measurements or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work assigned shifts as production needs.
  • Ability to work at extreme heights or in confined spaces.
  • Ability to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test.
  • Ability to work indoors/outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
  • Pass a Physical Agility Test.
  • Perform overhead work.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Undergo a background investigation and drug screen.
