Overview

The CBP Aircraft Composite Specialist is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and modifying aircraft structures and components, including flight controls, engines, and fuel systems. This role requires technical expertise in airframe and power plant systems to solve problems and perform maintenance tasks on assigned aircraft.

Responsibilities

• Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions.
• Perform daily, flight line, and hangar maintenance on all assigned aircraft.
• Conduct inspections, corrosion control, troubleshooting, and fault isolation on aircraft systems.
• Furnish own hand tools for aircraft maintenance, with necessary special tools provided by Customs.
• Occasionally lead teams through complex aircraft tasks.
• Make entries in aircraft logs and records as required.
• Prioritize workload schedules on assigned projects.

Requirements

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Must hold a current airframe and power plant mechanic (A&P) certificate.
• Competent and knowledgeable in the repair and maintenance of airframes, hydraulics, fuel systems, and aircraft engines.
• Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair.
• Working knowledge of military and general aviation aircraft airframe and engine logbooks.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment and torque wrenches.
• Working knowledge of technical publications.
• Able to follow procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.
• Proficient in Office software applications, especially Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to meet required deadlines and maintain necessary workflow.
• Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
