Position Overview

Fab-Tech Steel Group is seeking an experienced Miscellaneous Steel Shop Foreman to oversee projects from initial planning and field measurement through fabrication, finishing, delivery, and installation. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in miscellaneous steel fabrication, shop supervision, field coordination, and project tracking.

Responsibilities

Manage miscellaneous steel projects from inception through installation. Review architectural, structural, and approved shop drawings. Complete site visits and accurately take field measurements. Coordinate measurements and project information with in-house detailers for shop drawings and piece details. Review fabrication drawings for accuracy and constructability. Prepare material takeoffs and order steel, hardware, supplies, and finishing materials. Schedule, assign, and supervise daily shop labor. Ensure employees work safely, efficiently, and according to project schedules. Track fabrication progress and adjust priorities as needed. Perform quality-control inspections on dimensions, welds, fit-up, hardware, and finishes. Coordinate galvanizing, powder coating, painting, deliveries, and installation activities. Maintain project schedules, production trackers, material logs, and punch lists. Identify and resolve material shortages, fabrication issues, field conflicts, and scheduling delays. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized fabrication shop. Provide regular project updates to company management.

Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of experience in miscellaneous steel, structural steel, architectural metal, or a related fabrication environment. Previous foreman or shop-supervision experience preferred. Ability to read architectural, structural, shop, and fabrication drawings. Strong field-measuring and site-verification skills. Knowledge of welding, fitting, cutting, drilling, grinding, and finishing processes. Experience with railings, stairs, ladders, gates, dunnage, platforms, supports, and similar steel products. Strong leadership, organizational, scheduling, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities. Basic proficiency with email, Microsoft Excel, and project-tracking tools. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites throughout New York City and the Tri-State area. OSHA and applicable welding or safety certifications are preferred.
