Overview

You will serve as a WELDER in the STRUCTURAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD, responsible for producing high-quality welds and ensuring compliance with safety and inspection standards.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect work for conformance to nuclear reactor plant specifications before formal inspection.
  • Produce high-quality welds that must pass stringent x-ray standards.
  • Direct helpers, apprentices, and fire watchers.
  • Observe safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform welding operations on nuclear and non-nuclear piping and pressure vessels.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance.
  • Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment continuously during work shifts.
  • This position may require working nights, weekends, and holidays.
