Overview

The High Pressure Plant Tender position at New York City Transit involves tending to high pressure boilers and related equipment under supervision. The role requires passing a Civil Service Exam for permanent status and includes various responsibilities related to maintenance and repair of heating and ventilation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Tend oil, gas, or coal fired high pressure boilers and incinerator furnaces.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of high pressure boilers and related equipment.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems.
  • Hand fire high pressure boilers using solid fuels and operate stoker equipment.
  • Clean fires and maintain high pressure boilers and incinerator furnaces.
  • Requisition parts as required for maintenance tasks.
  • Dismantle and assemble equipment associated with HVAC systems.
  • Operate a motor vehicle as necessary.

Requirements

  • Two years of full-time satisfactory experience operating and maintaining high pressure boilers or equivalent marine experience.
  • One year of experience plus relevant training from an approved trade school or college can substitute for the remaining experience.
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English.
