Overview

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is a national engineering firm focused on providing comprehensive solutions for complex challenges in structural engineering. The firm seeks a passionate Professional Engineer in Structural Engineering to contribute to a variety of projects involving the repair and rehabilitation of existing structures.

Responsibilities

  • Work on a wide range of structural-engineering projects involving steel, concrete, masonry and wood structures.
  • Plan and conduct site investigations to document existing conditions.
  • Execute the construction-administration phase of projects, including bid assistance and submittal review.
  • Conduct condition assessments of existing buildings.
  • Design repair, rehabilitation, and restoration measures for existing structures and prepare construction documents.
  • Design structural components for adaptive re-use and modifications of existing buildings.
  • Investigate structural failures and adverse performance issues.
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • Maintain direct client contact within the context of assigned work.
  • Pursue professional activities for recognition.
  • Publish articles and give technical presentations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural analysis and design of concrete, steel, masonry, and wood-frame structures.
  • MS in Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering License (SE) required.
  • Proficient in writing and editing project specifications, technical reports, field reports, project correspondence, and proposals.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage project budgets.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficient in the use of computer analysis software (e.g., ETABS, SAP, RISA, RAM, SAFE).
  • Ability to travel to remote job sites not accessible by public transportation.
