Overview

CTR Group is seeking experienced Shipfitters for immediate openings in the North Eastern area of the US, specifically at a large commercial shipyard in Philadelphia. This role involves heavy structural fabrication and assembly of steel components.

Responsibilities

  • Perform layout, fit‑up, and alignment of structural components including bulkheads, decks, frames, foundations, and modules.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and ship construction drawings.
  • Use measuring tools such as levels, squares, plumb bobs, tape measures, and micrometers to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare steel for welding through grinding, beveling, reaming, drilling, and cutting.
  • Install foundations, brackets, stiffeners, and structural supports.
  • Perform tack welding as required for fit‑up.
  • Conduct burning, heating, and straightening operations as needed.
  • Work safely in confined spaces, at heights, and aboard vessels or modules.
  • Follow all shipyard safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and hot‑work protocols.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of shipfitting or heavy‑steel fabrication experience in a shipyard or industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel assembly and ship construction practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed blueprints and structural drawings.
  • Proficiency with grinders, torches, magnetic drills, reamers, and other fabrication tools.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced production environment with tight tolerances.
  • Must be able to pass all required background checks, drug screening, and site‑specific training.
