Overview

Burns & McDonnell is an award-winning, 100% employee-owned engineering, architectural, construction, environmental, and consulting services firm founded in 1898. They are seeking a Staff Structural Engineer to apply their technical design experience while engaging with clients on a variety of unique projects including airports and military facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Modify and review production drawings for various projects including industrial and healthcare facilities.
  • Design structural components based on project needs set by project managers.
  • Apply knowledge of structural engineering concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
  • Research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
  • Update drawings provided by senior engineers to ensure corrections are made within CAD software.
  • Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
  • Perform field observations, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 4 years of structural engineering experience required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 4 years of structural engineering experience required.
  • Master Degree of Science in Structural Engineering and 3 years of structural engineering experience required.
  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and structural analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.

  • This job posting will remain open a minimum of 72 hours and on an ongoing basis until filled.
