Overview

The Welder 1 position involves performing simple to complex welding applications under direct supervision, including welding metal components for various types of trailers. The role requires understanding quality specifications, reading blueprints, and supporting team objectives while adhering to safety and quality regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform work in a professional and safe manner, reporting unsafe work practices.
  • Learn and understand layout, assembly, and welding procedures.
  • Complete and understand reports including scrap, safety, quality, work orders, and inventory.
  • Bolt, clamp, and tack-weld parts to secure them for welding.
  • May assemble parts by bolting.
  • Recognize team lifting opportunities and lift weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Learn techniques for repairing products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, cutting, and reassembling parts.
  • Use or learn the proper use of fabrication equipment such as plasma cutters and cutting torches.
  • Clean and quality check all welds and run structural welds.
  • Learn to diagnose, troubleshoot, and solve welding problems.
  • Adhere to the Company’s Quality Programs and procedures, policies, and Safety and Environmental Regulations.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D Equivalent.
  • Preferred technical education courses from postsecondary institutions or welding training through the U.S. Armed Forces.
  • Strong understanding of interpreting and using blueprints, welding specifications, and procedures.
  • Ability to use and read welding measuring devices including squares, levels, and tape measures.
  • Ability to take and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate with supervision and team members.
  • Ability to make repair welds using fabrication equipment including cutting torches and grinders.
  • Basic math skills for calculating material fabrication.
  • Capable of learning the proper use of fabrication support equipment.
