Overview

The Marine Technician Apprentice is responsible for assisting mechanics, electricians, and welder/fabricators with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing of G&H Towing’s harbor tugs and facilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing of harbor tugs and facilities.
• Communicate effectively and professionally.
• Familiarize with company documents and Towing Management Systems.
• Maintain confidentiality in all organizational matters.
• Manage multiple demands while maintaining service standards.
• Operate machinery, including power, mechanical, and hand tools.
• Understand and execute complex oral and written instructions.
• Read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
• Work independently with minimal guidance.
• Adhere to company policies and safety procedures.
• Assist in planning with mechanics, electricians, and welder/fabricators.
• Perform preventative maintenance on tug and facility equipment.
• Conduct daily Toolbox meetings.
• Ensure work areas are clean and organized.
• Ensure adequate tools and supplies are available for welding operations.
• Inspect and maintain welding tools and equipment.
• Install tug and facility equipment.
• Perform basic welding under supervision.
• Write Job Safety Analyses.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of five years of industry experience in welding, HVAC, electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics, or piping systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and general computer skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Active and valid driver's license required.
