Overview

The Welder I TU position involves performing manual and semi-automatic welding on various materials and components while collaborating with the Fabrication Lead to meet production schedules. The role requires adherence to safety standards and quality specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times.
  • Analyze and plan complex non-repetitive tasks.
  • Perform difficult or complex welds or operations.
  • Work with the Quality Department to ensure all welding meets specified job requirements.
  • Cut and prepare holes in components or products utilizing plasma and oxy-fuel torches.
  • Set, align, and string weld joints in preparation for manual and/or automatic welding.
  • Setup, adjust, and operate all types of manual and semi-automatic welding equipment in accordance with the proper Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).
  • Ensure welding is capable of passing RT and UT requirements.
  • Verify welding and material is in accordance with drawings, standards, and specifications.
  • Observe and work in a safe and secure manner, complying with safety rules and procedures.
  • Weld fixtures, temporary lugs, and other non-production items in accordance with the proper WPS.
  • Perform small repairs and preventative maintenance on the welding equipment.
  • Assist in placing and removing pieces, components, and products to/from the welding area.
  • Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other mobile equipment for moving materials.
  • Perform general laborer duties as required.
  • Keep working area clean and perform housekeeping duties around the plant.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for Stick and Flux-Core work. Stick (SMAW) burns a flux-coated consumable rod and needs no shielding gas, so it works in wind, rain, and on dirty or rusted steel. That tolerance for bad conditions keeps it the default for field, structural, and repair work. Flux-cored (FCAW) runs a hollow wire filled with flux, combining MIG-like deposition rates with the outdoor tolerance of stick. It is the workhorse on heavy structural steel and shipbuilding, where thick sections and long welds reward speed.
