Overview

Orion is seeking Welders for field construction operations to support marine and heavy civil projects. The company relies on skilled craft professionals to build and maintain infrastructure that keeps America’s ports, waterways, bridges, and waterfronts moving.

Responsibilities

• Work as assigned by the Welding Shop Foreman to ensure successful completion of marine yard support projects.
• Gather information on the scope of work and obtain necessary permits before starting welding projects.
• Cut, weld, chip, and grind metal as required by the project.
• Utilize oxygen-acetylene cutting torch and related equipment to cut metal from existing structures.
• Weld together pieces of sheet metal once individual sheet piles are driven into place.
• Stick rod weld in all positions to complete jobs.
• Rig cable for lifting and moving objects.
• Handle placement of steel plates and sheet piles with cranes, winches, cables, and hand tools.
• Operate saws, presses, drills, and grinders to fabricate parts for equipment repair.
• Inspect and make minor repairs to welding equipment and notify Foreman of parts needed.
• Pick up needed materials and supplies for projects.
• Collaborate with skilled crafts persons to complete projects safely and efficiently.
• Participate in Safety and Environmental initiatives for compliance with regulations.

Requirements

• A minimum of two years welding experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Good knowledge of welding practices and materials.
• Understanding of physical characteristics of various types of metal used in marine construction.
• Ability to operate various types of marine equipment and devices.
• Knowledge of safe work practices in a marine environment.
• Capability to pass standard welding tests demonstrating proficiency.
• Skill in stick rod welding in all positions, acetylene and arc welding equipment, and hand and power tools.
• Effective verbal communication skills and ability to keep records of time and materials used.
