Overview

The Repair Welder - Level III - Level IV position involves performing repairs and product improvement welding updates on steel structures for all-terrain and crawler cranes and other components of Liebherr Ehingen products throughout the United States. This role requires fitting, welding, and repairing steel structures in accordance with manufacturer specifications, while ensuring a clean and safe work environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior welders with crane repair and fabrication work.
• Perform basic SMAW and GMAW welding under supervision.
• Clean, prep, and grind materials before and after welding.
• Read simple blueprints and welding symbols.
• Operate basic shop equipment and hand tools.
• Maintain clean and safe work areas.
• Follow all company safety requirements.
• Learn crane structural components and repair procedures.
• Perform basic structural repairs with minimal supervision.
• Weld carbon steel components using GMAW, SMAW, and gouging processes.
• Repair cracks, worn sections, and damaged crane assemblies.
• Read drawings and welding procedures independently.
• Conduct basic fit-up and layout work.
• Operate grinders, torches, plasma cutters, and fabrication equipment.
• Assist senior welders on larger scale repair jobs.
• Complete quality inspections on finished welds.
• Operate overhead cranes and rigging equipment safely.
• Document performed work (Service Report, Photos, Expense Report, Timesheet).
• Perform damage inspections with assistance.
• Lead repair welding crews on crane rebuild projects.
• Ensure compliance with welding procedures and quality standards.
• Coordinate with managers and customers.
• Conduct weld inspections and documentation reviews.

Requirements

• 0–1 years of welding or fabrication experience.
• Technical school or welding certification preferred.
• Basic understanding of welding safety and shop practices.
• 1–2 years of welding and fabrication experience for Level II.
• AWS D1.1 Certified Welder for Level II.
• 3–5 years of heavy structural welding experience for Level III.
• 5+ years of structural welding and crane repair experience for Level IV.
• Demonstrated proficiency as Level I for Level II.
• Demonstrated proficiency as Level II for Level III.
• Strong understanding of metallurgy and preheat requirements for Level III.
• Expert-level structural welding ability for Level IV.

Additional Information

• Travel domestically and internationally up to 80% of the time.
