Overview

The General Services Department (GSD) is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic II to provide skilled and corrective maintenance on various systems and equipment, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical. GSD is a client-centered department that manages over 300 facilities, ensuring they are clean, well-maintained, and secure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled and corrective maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and roofing systems.
  • Conduct routine maintenance checks and complete maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect and repair pumps, motors, plumbing, drains, and other facilities and equipment.
  • Fabricate and stick weld various parts.
  • Drive to various work sites to inspect systems and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and recommend repairs.
  • Perform miscellaneous activities such as painting and window installations.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas.
  • Perform groundskeeping if necessary.
  • Use internal work order management system to document equipment history.

Requirements

  • Specialized training in a specific area or trade, typically acquired through up to 18 months of education beyond high school.
  • Six months of experience in building or mechanical maintenance.
  • Valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's driving policy.
  • May require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Preference for candidates with 2-3 years of hands-on experience in general building maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC systems, or welding.
  • Advanced experience preferred for those with 3 or more years in building systems maintenance.
  • Building maintenance certification, HVAC certification, or other relevant trade certifications are highly desired.

Additional Information

  • Workdays are Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Position involves considerable physical exertion and exposure to various environmental conditions.
  • Candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check and obtain security clearances.
