Overview

As a Manual Machinist at Curtiss-Wright, you will perform routine and semi-routine assignments involving the setup, operation, and tool adjustments for manual machine shop equipment, working from blueprints to produce precision metal components. The company specializes in engineered products and repair services for heat exchangers and has a long history of innovation in the industrial sector.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and semi-routine assignment planning, layout, setup, and operation of manual machine shop equipment.
  • Machine parts in small batch quantities using Engine Lathes, Manual Mills, Turret Lathes, and Benchtop Lathes.
  • Maintain high throughput and adapt to changing workloads to meet customer demands.
  • Set up milling fixtures such as indexers and vices using DRO.
  • Select proper tooling applications and optimize feed/speed for various operations and materials.
  • Grind tooling to create simple profiles as required.
  • Conduct daily preventive maintenance on equipment and assist in minor to moderate repairs.
  • Log labor using ERP tracking software and complete shop travelers to comply with ISO standards.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and inspect parts using various measuring tools to ensure compliance with tolerances.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic knowledge of sheet metal and CNC equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, layout, and process worksheets.
  • Experience with manual mills and lathes is required.
  • Basic Arithmetic and Geometry skills; GD&T knowledge is a plus.
  • Understanding of product quality and compliance with health and safety procedures.
  • Practice Lean Manufacturing on a daily basis.
