Overview

The Upholstery Technician role at Porsche Cars North America involves restoration, preservation, personalization, and repair services for Porsche vehicles, ensuring adherence to factory standards. The position is part of the Factory Restoration business unit and requires a skilled technician to support various upholstery projects and customer interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform vehicle upholstery restoration, preservation, and personalization services.
  • Recommend and perform upholstery services on all interior vehicle components to Porsche factory standards.
  • Review repair orders, maintain production status database, and discuss work with supervisors.
  • Interact with vehicle owning customers as part of the project team.
  • Explain technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals.
  • Find parts and available materials, synchronize workflow, and coordinate vehicle cycles.
  • Support cost estimates for repairs including labor time and materials.
  • Plan work procedures using charts and technical manuals.
  • Examine vehicles for defects and make necessary repairs prior to upholstery application.
  • Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined.
  • Monitor and work closely with the Classic Team to achieve qualitative and quantitative targets.
  • Perform care and cleaning work on parts, vehicles, or workspaces as needed.
  • Support test drives, correct deficiencies, and perform final inspections of vehicles.
  • Maintain necessary training to meet Porsche Classic Standards.
  • Use power and hand tools to apply and install upholstery materials.
  • Attach finishes to complete projects to required specifications.
  • Measure and cut fabric or leather materials to precise sizes and dimensions.
  • Operate various industrial equipment for upholstery tasks.
  • Manage and report on project execution and problem solve with supervisors.
  • Perform 5S in the upholstery workshop and support throughout the full Restoration facility.

Requirements

  • Automotive technical degree preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 7 years’ experience in vehicle upholstery repair and manufacturing.
  • Upholstery experience on various substrate materials such as aluminum, steel, carbon fiber, and carbon Kevlar.
  • 5 years’ experience in concours level vehicle upholstery maintenance, repair, and manufacturing.
  • 5 years’ experience in fabric material, adhesive, and special tool procurement.
  • 3 years’ experience in vehicle upholstery of classic Porsche vehicles preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects.
  • Fluency in English (oral/written).
  • Highly organized, target-oriented mindset, works well without close supervision.
  • Ability to set and meet challenging deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • High possession of Porsche passion.
  • German language a plus.
  • Excellent knowledge of Classic range of Porsche Vehicles.
  • Excellent knowledge of Porsche interior parts.
  • Proficient in Porsche special tools and service equipment.
  • Proficient in computer skills.
  • Experience with CDK software desired.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • Clean Driving Record.
  • Ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
