Overview

The job involves reading and interpreting blueprints, fabricating metal components, and performing various welding techniques. The ideal candidate will have experience in a manufacturing setting and possess strong mechanical skills.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work orders.
• Measure, mark, cut, and fit metal components using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
• Perform MIG, TIG, Stick, and/or Flux-Core welding as required.
• Assemble and tack weld components to prepare for final welding.
• Verify dimensions and tolerances using measuring instruments such as tape measures, squares, levels, and calipers.
• Operate fabrication equipment including grinders, saws, torches, drills, ironworkers, and plasma cutters.
• Inspect completed welds and assemblies for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
• Repair defective welds and make necessary adjustments.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with OSHA and company safety standards.
• Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and team members to resolve fabrication and assembly issues.
• Perform routine maintenance on welding and fabrication equipment.
• Assist with material handling, loading, and unloading as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1 - 2+ years of experience as a welder/fitter in a production/manufacturing setting.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, analytical skills, problem-solving skills and high attention to detail.
• Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
• Experience with steel, aluminum and/or stainless steel required.
• Experience with MIG and TIG welding.
• Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
• Ability to identify, measure material and produce quality products consistently.
• Ability to read blueprints, drawings, calipers, tape measures and angle gauges.
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member to carry out assignments to completion.
• Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials and parts.
• Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods, up to 12 hours per shift.
• Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, and work safely in a manufacturing environment.
• Exceptional judgment, dependable, excellent teamwork skills, good time management skills, creative, hardworking & persistent, professional competence, proactive.
• Current/active driver’s license.

Additional Information

• Travel 5% of time for meetings at other SSAB locations, deliveries, trainings, seminars & conferences as needed.
• Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, provincial and local standards.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, provincial and local standards.
