Overview

This role focuses on inspecting, organizing, and handling steel erection rental equipment in a large outdoor yard environment. The position involves consistent physical labor and offers opportunities for growth within a small, tight-knit team at a remote facility in North Houston.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect steel erection rental equipment and individual parts for damage, wear, or defects.
  • Organize and pull parts from a large outdoor yard according to work orders or supervisor instructions.
  • Determine whether defective parts should be repaired, replaced, or scrapped based on condition.
  • Use hand tools, including hammers, to rework and correct minor defects in metal components.
  • Clean and prepare equipment and materials to ensure they are ready for use or rental.
  • Assist welders by helping prepare metals for welding, including staging, moving, and organizing materials.
  • Perform continuous physical labor throughout the day, including lifting, carrying, stacking, and loading products.
  • Load finished and inspected products into stacks or designated areas for storage or shipment.
  • Work safely in an outdoor construction-type yard, following all safety procedures and using proper protective equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with a small on-site team to complete daily tasks and meet production needs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area within the yard and small metal building.
  • Arrive reliably and on time for all scheduled shifts to support ongoing yard operations.

Requirements

  • Experience working outdoors in a construction yard or similar environment.
  • Experience in general labor, construction, yard help, or outside work.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for an entire workday, including lifting, carrying, and stacking heavy materials.
  • Comfort working in hot and cold conditions in a non-climate-controlled facility.
  • Experience in a hot or cold production shop or industrial setting.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools, such as hammers, to rework metal parts.
  • Strong reliability and ability to show up consistently and on time.
  • Capacity to follow instructions and work safely around construction and metal fabrication equipment.
  • Willingness to work closely with welders and other team members in a yard and shop environment.

Additional Information

  • This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.
  • The work environment includes a small metal building with no air conditioning or heater, and much of the work takes place outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • You collaborate closely with a team of about 10-15 employees in a hands-on, industrial setting.
