Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Steel Fabrication Shop Foreman to lead our fabrication team in delivering high-quality metal structures and components. In this role, you will oversee daily shop operations, coordinate fabrication activities, and ensure projects meet safety, quality, and production standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily shop activities, ensuring all fabrication tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and according to project specifications.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication plans.
  • Lead the assembly of metal structures using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and machining tools.
  • Monitor quality control by inspecting materials and finished products using measuring instruments.
  • Enforce safety protocols rigorously to maintain a safe working environment in compliance with OSHA standards and ASME codes.
  • Train and mentor team members on proper welding techniques and fabrication best practices.
  • Manage inventory of metal materials, consumables, and shop tools to ensure smooth workflow and minimize delays.

Requirements

  • Proven construction site experience with a strong understanding of construction processes and safety standards.
  • Extensive shop fabrication experience with metal materials including sheet metal, structural steel, and other alloys.
  • Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication shop math.
  • Skilled in various welding techniques including MIG, TIG, FCAW, and SMAW, with adherence to AWS standards.
  • Ability to operate measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and measuring tapes.
  • Mechanical knowledge related to fabrication shop equipment like plasma cutters, saws, drills, grinders, and CNC machinery.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a team effectively while maintaining high safety standards.
  • Knowledge of ASME codes & standards for pressure vessels or piping is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills combined with basic math skills necessary for precise measurements and calculations.
