Overview

Fort Knox is a cold weather heap leach facility located near Fairbanks, Alaska, with a strong commitment to community support. The Welder position involves performing structural welding repairs on mining equipment and requires knowledge of various welding techniques and materials.

Responsibilities

  • Receives instructions, prints, and work orders for the job.
  • Plans details of working procedure and tools/materials requirements.
  • Fabricates equipment by cutting, burning, and welding various materials.
  • Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded and sets up assembly.
  • Utilizes burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and cut material to size.
  • Performs field welding as needed.
  • Dismantles or cuts up obsolete machinery, setting aside parts for scrap.
  • Stays familiar with and utilizes all proper safety equipment.
  • Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  • Maintains punctuality and regular attendance.
  • Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures.
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
  • Works safely and identifies potential safety hazards.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Three years of welding experience on mining or construction heavy equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of steel codes and classes of steel.
  • Welding certification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of welding rod/wire and tensile strength.
  • Own hand tools up to ¾” drive for necessary maintenance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand repair manuals and diagrams.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the physical demands sheets.
  • Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays, and weekends.

  • Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks.
  • US work permit required.
  • Travel not required, only exceptionally.
