Overview

The Welder position involves planning, laying out, and performing various welding operations to repair and fabricate parts for ATI rotary forge facilities and outside vendors. ATI is committed to solving complex challenges through materials science and seeks high performers to join their team.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, layout and perform a variety of welding, grinding and air arcing operations.
  • Work from samples, drawings, sketches and other instructions to perform welding and grinding operations.
  • Perform carbon arc, tig, and stick welding operations utilizing super alloy electrodes.
  • Detect and report defective materials, improper operation and unusual conditions.
  • Safely operate lift trucks and cranes to maintain material flow.
  • Complete daily checklists on equipment and hammer inventory.
  • Participate in Standard Work projects.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Follow prescribed safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Use advanced shop mathematics, charts, tables, and formulas.
  • Use precision measuring instruments and have knowledge of machining operations.
  • Experience of at least 6 months of industrial welding experience is preferred.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for TIG and Stick work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds. Stick (SMAW) burns a flux-coated consumable rod and needs no shielding gas, so it works in wind, rain, and on dirty or rusted steel. That tolerance for bad conditions keeps it the default for field, structural, and repair work.
