Overview

The County of Riverside's Transportation Department is seeking a Welder-Fabricator to perform welding and metal fabrication work related to equipment repair, alteration, and installation. This position requires skill in machinist work, welding, and sheet metal fabrication, and involves working independently under general supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform precision machine operations to produce parts needed for the repair or alteration of commercial vehicles and construction equipment.
• Operate machine tools according to blueprints, drawings, or sample parts, testing completed parts for defects and conformance to specifications.
• Conduct skilled welding and metal cutting operations in various positions to fabricate or repair structures, commercial vehicles, and construction equipment.
• Review layouts, blueprints, diagrams, or work orders in preparation for welding or cutting metal components.
• Inspect finished work for conformance to specifications.
• Determine project requirements, assembly sequences, methods, appropriate tools, and types of materials needed.
• Maintain tools and equipment using appropriate maintenance methods.

Requirements

• Four years of experience performing skilled work as a machinist, welder, and sheet metal fabricator.
• Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality control.
• Familiarity with machines, tools, and welding equipment, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Understanding of mathematics including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and calculus as applicable to shop projects.
• Ability to operate welding and metal fabrication tools and machines.
• Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify problems or defects.
• Ability to conduct tests and inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality or performance.

Additional Information

• A valid Class B California Driver's License is desired; a Class C California Driver's License is required at minimum.
• A practical test may be required during second interviews.
