Overview

The Fabrication Fitter is responsible for laying out, fitting, and welding fabricated pipe and related components while adhering to safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Lays out, fits, and welds fabricated pipe and related components.
  • Follows all safety policies and initiates safety improvements.
  • Fits and assembles structural frameworks and housings from various materials.
  • Uses hand tools and welding equipment according to blueprint specifications.
  • Examines blueprints and materials list to obtain parts specifications.
  • Tack-welds scrap metal to outline to provide jig for assembly.
  • Positions parts in jig and files, chisels, and grinds parts as needed.
  • Completes welds with minimal de-burring and grinding.
  • Compares dimensions of assembly to blueprint specifications periodically.
  • Heats parts with acetylene torch and bends them as necessary.
  • Tack-welds fitted parts together or directs fab finisher to do so.
  • Performs final dimensional check in accordance with blueprint or work sheet.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

  • Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Must be able to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, pipe drawings, and procedure manuals.
  • Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must be able to speak effectively with supervisors and other employees.
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic operations.
  • Must be able to accurately read a tape measure.
  • Must be able to understand and execute written, oral, or diagram instructions.
  • Must be able to recognize and solve problems involving concrete variables.
  • Must be able to use company computer systems to view dispatch lists.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and interpret blueprints and weld procedures.
