Overview

The R&D Engineer II will be a key contributor on an R&D team within a Medical Device Company, focusing on Integrated Diagnostic Solutions and Specimen Management. This role requires a strong understanding of technical principles and the ability to provide innovative solutions to complex engineering problems.

Responsibilities

• Work under supervision to provide solutions for technical problems of increasing scope and complexity.
• Develop mechanical designs/solutions based on engineering analysis to meet performance requirements.
• Analyze design variations, part assembly/disassembly, and performance anomalies.
• Design and perform experimental tests within project responsibilities and ensure conformance with scientific methods.
• Contribute as an extended team member on significant projects or lead smaller scope projects.
• Support material/design/process changes through the design control process with well-documented research.
• Demonstrate accountability for successful and timely completion of designated tasks.
• Develop technical solutions to engineering problems using experimental, computational, and analytical methods.
• Design and develop in vivo and in vitro models to evaluate product features and improvements.
• Apply innovative and logical risk-based approaches to product development challenges.
• Develop robust test methods, design test fixtures, and execute measurement system analysis.
• Ensure compliance with quality policies through appropriate communication, training, and education.
• Plan, execute, and analyze design of experiments (DOE).
• Write, implement, and lead bench studies, tolerance stack-up analysis, design verification, and validation.
• Perform data analysis using statistical tools and develop transfer functions.
• Collect, record, report, interpret, and analyze data, presenting results to peers and leadership.
• Provide advanced engineering skills and product evaluation support to build business cases for new opportunities.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of products and processes relating to specimen collection.
• Author protocols and reports including engineering studies and design verification activities.

Requirements

• Bachelors/Masters in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline.
• B.S.: 2+ years of experience in technical area.
• M.S.: 0 years of experience in technical area.
• Sound knowledge of engineering fundamentals.
• Familiarity with R&D functional planning and requirement generation.
• Familiarity with project management, prioritizing, and multi-tasking skills.
• Proficient in solid modeling (Pro/E, SolidWorks or equivalent).
• Ability to effectively communicate concepts and ideas to teams.
• Familiarity with fixture design and developing test methods.
• Exposure to Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA).
• Familiarity with Six Sigma (DMAIC) practices and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies.
• Strong creative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
