Job Description

Overview

True Anomaly is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for Space Based Interceptors to design and develop flight hardware for advanced defense aerospace programs, focusing on hypersonic speeds and extreme environments.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical authority in Space Based Interceptors and hypersonic vehicle mechanical design.
  • Own and drive the full mechanical architecture of flight vehicle structures and systems.
  • Define structural design philosophy, sizing criteria, and margins of safety for flight vehicle structures.
  • Lead the design and development of guidance, navigation, and control hardware and seeker packaging architectures.
  • Own the thermal protection system design strategy for hypersonic and re-entry flight vehicles.
  • Lead mechanical integration of propulsion subsystems and coordinate with propulsion engineers.
  • Define and maintain vehicle-level mechanical interface control documents and configuration baselines.
  • Chair and lead formal vehicle design reviews and drive closure of technical risks.
  • Establish and enforce GD&T standards and CAD model management practices.
  • Collaborate with various engineering teams to derive and flow down mechanical requirements.
  • Develop and approve structural and environmental qualification and acceptance test plans.
  • Leverage spacecraft design expertise to inform cross-domain solutions.
  • Provide technical mentorship and career development guidance to junior engineers.
  • Partner with program management to support proposal efforts and new program captures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 7–15+ years of professional experience in mechanical design, primarily on Space Based Interceptors or hypersonic vehicle programs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in flight vehicle structural design for high-dynamic-pressure and high-g environments.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with guidance and seeker packaging architecture.
  • Deep experience with thermal protection system design and high-temperature materials.
  • Proven experience leading mechanical integration of propulsion subsystems.
  • Expert-level proficiency in NX (Siemens) and/or SolidWorks.
  • Mastery of GD&T principles and experience enforcing drawing and model standards.
  • Proven track record of leading flight vehicle hardware programs from concept through test.
  • Experience chairing or leading formal vehicle design reviews.
  • Strong familiarity with relevant defense and aerospace standards.
  • Experience with configuration management and PLM tools at a program leadership level.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
