Overview

The Certified Welder at Dacon performs aluminum bus and jumper welding in high voltage substation applications, ensuring compliance with approved welding procedures and standards. This role involves reading and interpreting substation drawings, fabricating bus sections, and conducting quality inspections to support project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Weld aluminum tubular bus, connectors, and jumper terminations using GTAW and GMAW in all positions.
  • Prepare joints by cleaning and degreasing before welding.
  • Control preheat and interpass temperature to prevent burn-through and distortion.
  • Select and set up the correct machine and materials for welding.
  • Perform aluminum and steel repair welding as directed.
  • Read and interpret substation drawings and specifications.
  • Take field measurements and fabricate bus sections to match conditions.
  • Perform cutting, grinding, and support welding as needed.
  • Inspect completed welds for defects and maintain quality records.
  • Participate in safety planning and comply with safety policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; completion of a welding program preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of welding experience, especially in aluminum.
  • Ability to weld in all positions using GTAW and GMAW.
  • Current welder qualification to AWS D1.2 for assigned processes.
  • Ability to read substation drawings and welding specifications.
  • Knowledge of aluminum joint preparation and filler alloy selection.
  • Proficiency with welding and cutting tools and equipment.
  • OSHA 10 certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks.

  • Position based at Dacon's assigned project sites.
  • Ability to travel to project sites, including overnight travel.
