The Pipe Welder position involves laying out, fitting, and welding components to assemble structural forms with a focus on safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly.
• Examine work pieces for defects and measure to ensure conformance with specifications.
• Weld together metal components such as piping systems and structural shapes using electric arc-welding equipment.
• Obtain specified electrode and insert it into the portable holder or welding gun.
• Connect cables and adjust welding unit to obtain specified amperage, voltage, polarity, and pulse.
• Start power supply to produce electric current and strike arc to melt and deposit metal.
• Manually guide electrode or gun along weld-line to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
• Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions and examine weld for specifications.
• May manually apply filler rod and clean or degrease weld joint or workplace.
• May prepare broken parts for welding and remove excess weld or defective material.
• May preheat work piece and position or clamp work piece together in a jig or fixture.
• May tack weld assemblies and cut metal plates or structural shapes.
• May fit up parts and inspect fit before welding.
• May be required to use various welding processes.
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to TIG and stick weld on stainless and/or carbon.
• Must pass required weld tests.
• Must be willing to work outside craft.
• Must wear safety gear including protective goggles and masks.
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly.
• Utilize basic math and a calculator for geometric problems.
• Must be able to climb, bend, twist, stand, and reach repetitively.
• Candidate may be required to pass a drug test and criminal background check.
• Must have own TIG Rig and Stinger, along with other specified tools.
