Overview

The Mechanical Project Designer - Nuclear position at Sargent & Lundy involves working with multi-disciplined engineering and design teams to develop mechanical layout drawings and solve various mechanical design issues. This role includes leading design phases, coordinating with team members, and mentoring less experienced designers, all while utilizing 3D modeling software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical physical layout drawings in a 3-D model.
  • Design mechanical systems and troubleshoot mechanical design issues.
  • Utilize 3D modeling software tools to generate mechanical design schematics.
  • Act as the Mechanical design team lead for integrated mechanical design models.
  • Coordinate and guide other designers and project team members.
  • Independently plan and execute design deliverables.
  • Conduct field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities.
  • Mentor less experienced drafters and designers.

Requirements

  • An Associate's Degree in drafting or a high school diploma with drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience.
  • 15+ years of detailed physical design experience in mechanical general arrangements and piping systems.
  • Proficiency with design software tools for 3D plant layout models.
  • Experience in reviewing mechanical equipment and coordinating deliverables.
  • Ability to interface with engineering and design teams of other disciplines.
  • Experience with SmartPlant 3D software.
