Overview

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is seeking experienced Shipfitters with at least 4 years of fitting and fabrication experience. The role involves interpreting blueprints and fabricating steel structures for naval ships in a collaborative and innovative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints or plans to fabricate steel structures.
  • Use tools to measure, cut, grind, fit, align, and tack weld parts.
  • Build interior structures, hatches, doors, and bulkheads.
  • Attend and become qualified through the shipyard’s welding school.
  • Work in various locations including shops, dry-docks, and onboard ships.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of fitting/fabrication experience.
  • Ability to work at extreme heights and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test.
  • Must be able to pass a Physical Agility Test.
