Overview

This is a newly created Structural Engineer role at a well-established, family-run heavy industrial manufacturer in Itasca, IL, aimed at supporting the growth of the company's modular building and enclosure division. The position focuses on bringing structural engineering capabilities in-house to enhance design work and reduce reliance on third-party firms.

Responsibilities

• Conduct structural analysis for gravity, wind, seismic, snow, transportation, and lifting loads on modular buildings and skid-based structures.
• Develop structural designs, calculations, and construction details for various structural components.
• Prepare and review engineering packages, including structural drawings and supporting documentation for approvals and fabrication.
• Coordinate with architectural, mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and project management teams to deliver complete designs.
• Ensure designs account for transportation constraints, crane lifting points, rigging loads, and site conditions.
• Establish standard calculations for projects not requiring a PE stamp and publish them for internal and customer use.
• Complete initial analysis and structural optimization for projects to bring more work in-house over time.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 3 to 7 years of experience in structural calculations on steel structures or similar.
• Proficiency in finite element analysis and structural engineering software, and working knowledge of AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
• Ability to analyze structures for various loads to ensure safety and code compliance.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-team coordination.
• Experience managing competing priorities and critical timelines in a production-driven environment.
