Overview

WSP is seeking an Entry Level Substation Structural Engineer for their Duluth, GA office, with additional locations in Oradell, NJ, and Baton Rouge, LA. The role involves supporting the Power & Energy Civil Structural Substation Team in delivering structural engineering solutions for substation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural engineering work for electrical substation projects under general supervision.
  • Prepare detailed structural calculations and design criteria to meet client standards and applicable codes.
  • Create engineering drawing markups for drafting based on design calculations.
  • Assist in developing construction specifications, cost estimates, and technical inputs for proposals.
  • Provide entry-level technical assistance and cross-disciplinary coordination for integrated substation design.
  • Utilize structural analysis and finite element modeling tools for evaluating structural systems.
  • Maintain quality control standards and conduct QA/QC reviews of structural deliverables.
  • Support project structural leads with reporting requirements and technical coordination.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with design/build processes and concepts.
  • Knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, and compliance practices.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing and office automation tools.
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software like RISA3D, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements.
