Overview

The Pipefitter Leader position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Library Building and Grounds, Maintenance Branch, Plumbing Section. This essential role involves troubleshooting, repairing, and installing pipefitting system components across various Capitol Complex work sites, including historic buildings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, and work alongside journey-level pipefitters.
  • Relay supervisor instructions to staff and demonstrate proper work methods.
  • Ensure plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available.
  • Read and follow complex blueprints and specifications.
  • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including those in historical buildings.
  • Repair sewage, water, gas, and steam distribution systems and associated fixtures.
  • Clear clogged drains and repair faucets, toilets, urinals, and related fixtures.
  • Lead and perform pipe replacement; repair steam traps and valves.
  • Cut, thread, connect, and fit pipe using various joining methods and mechanical couplings.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain systems using a Building Automation System (BAS).
  • Use Web TMA and Mobile TMA to manage work orders and identify replacement parts.
  • Inspect, test, repair, and service fire protection systems per NFPA standards and local codes.
  • Complete electronic testing as part of inspection processes.
  • Perform brazing, soldering, and other hot-work processes, including welding where permitted.

Additional Information

  • Tour of duty is Sunday through Thursday from 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM.
  • Position is required to report during emergency closures.
