Job Description

Overview

Astrolab is The Lunar Operations Company, focused on designing and building systems and hardware for the lunar economy, including rovers and power networks. They seek a Structures and Mechanisms Manufacturing Engineer to support the development of lunar rovers and production processes, ensuring timely build and test of rover subassemblies and integration activities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, define, and develop fabrication, assembly, integration, and test processes for flight-qualified structural hardware.
  • Drive design for excellence throughout all stages of the product life cycle.
  • Develop and institutionalize fabrication and assembly standards.
  • Champion implementation of technology and processes to accelerate hardware development.
  • Lead investigations and determine solutions for non-conformances.
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Engage in hands-on work including fabrication, assembly, test, and integration.
  • Develop work instructions and documentation for build and test processes.
  • Outline detailed project plans and drive cross-functional execution.
  • Support design of the rover and other lunar hardware.
  • Collaborate with the cross-functional team to develop product, processes, facility, and supply chain.
  • Engage in supplier development and quality systems management.
  • Develop internal design, construction, and verification specifications.
  • Manage configuration and procurement and production planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or equivalent education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in production, R&D, manufacturing engineering, or test operations for flight-critical hardware.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical systems and precision mechanisms assembly.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles.
  • Master's degree in a relevant STEM field preferred.
  • Experience supporting human-rated spacecraft or NASA programs preferred.
  • Experience with composite manufacturing and precision machining preferred.
  • Experience using CAD modeling software, preferably Siemens NX.
  • Experience conducting root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with ESD controls, precision cleaning, and cleanroom assembly requirements.
  • Experience using instrumentation and sensors.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
  • Experience with JIRA, MES/MRP software, and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of SMC-S-016 and SMC-S-017 standards preferred.
  • Experience with non-destructive evaluation techniques for metallic materials preferred.
  • Familiarity with harnessing and NASA-STD-8739.4, J-STD-001, and IPC/WHMA-A-620 preferred.
