Overview

Gilero, A Sanner Company, is seeking two Engineering Interns to join their Chicago, IL office for part-time roles during the fall semester, providing exposure to medical device design and development. The interns will work at least 15 hours per week and gain experience in product development, rapid prototyping, and laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

  • Support engineering project teams in the development and evaluation of medical devices.
  • Build, assemble, modify, and rework prototypes for testing and design reviews.
  • Support the development and documentation of engineering test methods.
  • Conduct product testing and inspection including force and flow-rate testing.
  • Perform failure mode investigations and contribute to root-cause analysis.
  • Collect, analyze, and document test data; prepare engineering reports.
  • Perform metrology and dimensional analysis of components.
  • Create and revise 2D drawings and 3D CAD models using SolidWorks.
  • Support preparation of engineering documentation including project plans and test protocols.
  • Source, purchase, receive, and organize materials for laboratory activities.
  • Package and ship prototypes and project-related items as needed.
  • Operate rapid-prototyping and laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and compliance with safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing coursework in an engineering discipline, preferably biomedical, mechanical, industrial, chemical, or related field.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and basic quantitative data analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with project teams.
  • Prior laboratory, prototyping, machining, or product-development experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical device development practices is a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
