Overview

The Watershed Construction Maintenance Worker I performs semi-skilled construction and maintenance work for the wastewater collection and water distribution systems at the Department of Watershed Management. This role involves operating heavy equipment and collaborating with skilled trades and crew supervisors to ensure safety and efficiency in public works projects.

Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned work orders efficiently and effectively.
  • Perform skilled construction and maintenance work supporting public works projects.
  • Execute tasks using power and hand tools, as well as construction equipment.
  • Assist in prioritizing and completing work orders.
  • Clean catch basins and remove debris from sidewalks.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections on vehicles.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks such as asphalt repair and landscaping.
  • Coordinate with Crew Supervisors to determine daily duties.
  • Set up safety cones and ensure safety of work areas.
  • Clean up work areas after completing tasks.
  • Diagnose and address causes of cave-ins and operate equipment to remove blockages.
  • Safeguard work areas and flag traffic for crew safety.
  • Unstop sewers and house connections, and repair cave-ins.
  • Check utility truck for proper equipment and tools.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • No prior experience required.
  • 6 months of experience in construction and/or maintenance preferred.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Skill in operating a variety of light-to-heavy power equipment.
  • Ability to understand and apply relevant policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically with crew members.
