Overview

At General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, employees are dedicated to excellence in meeting the needs of warfighters and customers worldwide. The Welder Team Lead is responsible for welding various metals and alloys, leading daily work activities, and ensuring safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Welds a variety of metals and alloys, including dissimilar materials.
  • Operates welding, cutting, soldering, and brazing equipment to join or repair metal components.
  • May set up or operate welding or heat-treating robots.
  • Leads daily work activities, assigns tasks, and supports training.
  • Helps resolve production or equipment issues while ensuring safety and quality standards.
  • Joins, fabricates, and repairs metal parts to form permanent bonds.
  • Prepares materials and sets up welding devices or robots.
  • Welds metal components using specialized equipment.
  • Uses electrical currents to create heat and bond metals.
  • Plans work by interpreting blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics.
  • Observes tests on welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.

Requirements

  • Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 7-8 years' experience or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree in a technical discipline.
  • Technical expertise in welding and inspection.
  • Planning skills and detail-oriented.
  • Manual dexterity and knowledge of safety procedures.
  • Ability to read blueprints and diagrams.
  • Team leadership training and experience.

Additional Information

  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.
  • Work may require exposure to changing climate and operating machinery.
  • May be requested to work a different shift.
  • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.
  • Position is Safety-Sensitive.
  • No or very little travel likely.
