Overview

The Welder 1 position at Greenbrier involves performing quality welding of parts and fixtures in the railcar manufacturing process, utilizing various welding equipment. Greenbrier is a leading designer and manufacturer of freight rail transportation equipment and services, emphasizing a culture of safety, quality, and respect for people.

Responsibilities

  • Fits, aligns and clamps railcar parts to prepare for welding.
  • Cleans and preps surface area to be welded using a grinder or hand tools.
  • Performs manual or semi-automatic arc welding of railcar parts and assemblies.
  • Follows weld procedures outlined in Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Visually inspects welds, repairs defective welds, and performs minor repairs to welding equipment.
  • Performs occasional air, arc or flame cutting to repair defective welds.
  • Ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently or with a team.
  • Ability to complete and pass weld qualifications testing after training.
  • High School diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Experience using a manual or semi-automatic arc welder (preferred).
  • Experience operating a forklift or overhead crane (preferred).
  • Experience working in a production environment (preferred).
  • Ability to learn to operate a forklift and overhead crane.

Additional Information

  • Work environment includes heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid, dusty conditions, noise, moving machinery and trip hazards.
  • Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment.
  • Employee may be required to perform work at heights above four feet or within confined spaces.
