Job Description

Overview

The Mechanical Inspector / Mechanical Field Engineer position involves providing field inspection and mechanical construction oversight for various systems in an active transportation infrastructure project in New York City. The role includes installation verification, quality control, functional testing, and contractor coordination over a contract duration of 78 months.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect installation of mechanical equipment, piping, accessories, pumps, ventilation equipment, and related systems.
  • Verify installation, materials, workmanship, alignment, supports, connections, and equipment condition against approved documents.
  • Monitor contractor and subcontractor mechanical work for quality, progress, safety, and compliance.
  • Review mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs for field coordination.
  • Document field observations, deficiencies, nonconforming work, and corrective actions.
  • Witness or support functional testing and commissioning of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Coordinate with electrical, controls, civil, and other disciplines where mechanical systems interface with other work.
  • Support punch-list, turnover, closeout, and final acceptance activities.
  • Work in active infrastructure environments, including schedules that may require nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • Mechanical construction inspection, field engineering, QA/QC, commissioning, or related experience.
  • Knowledge of pumps, piping, ventilation, HVAC, or industrial mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and equipment documentation.
  • Experience with contractor oversight, field reporting, testing, and deficiency resolution.
  • Ability to coordinate mechanical work with electrical and controls disciplines.
  • Transportation, rail, transit, utility, industrial, or complex infrastructure experience is relevant.
