Overview

Smurfit Westrock is a leader in sustainable packaging, dedicated to creating efficient paper and packaging solutions. The Class A Mechanic role involves providing mechanical support, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance tasks for equipment within the mill.
  • Create maintenance requests for repairs based on findings with equipment in the mill.
  • Perform operational tests to ensure satisfactory installation.
  • Follow general practice in diagnosing and remedying problems.
  • Conduct routine maintenance inspections following preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Investigate breakdowns and determine remedial action as required.
  • Collaborate with other members of the maintenance crew on specialized projects.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of industrial/manufacturing maintenance experience.
  • Able to perform mechanical troubleshooting on equipment.
  • Demonstrate basic welding techniques using a variety of metals.
  • Ability to use mechanical maintenance hand tools properly and safely.
  • Must be able to read and work with mechanical blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
  • Must be able to thread and fit piping.
  • Must be able to perform layout work.
  • Knowledge of lubrication requirements for industrial equipment.
  • Ability to use an acetylene torch or plasma cutter.
  • Basic knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Skilled at rebuilding rotating equipment, including pumps and gearboxes.
  • Knowledge and ability to install a variety of bearings and seals on rotating equipment.
  • Experience inspecting and diagnosing machine/equipment issues.
  • Familiarity with basic industrial safety topics.
  • Ability to work independently in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work multiple shifts with potential overtime hours.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
