Overview

The Train Engineer assists in the safe operation and maintenance of Steam Locomotives and other railroad equipment at a large amusement facility. This role involves conducting routine track work and repairs while ensuring guest safety and compliance with safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assists guests with boarding, riding, and disembarking the locomotive and passenger cars.
• Learns, adheres to, and enforces all train rider policies and procedures.
• Completes inspections of railroad rolling stock, tracks, and related equipment, providing documentation as required.
• Performs routine maintenance and lubrication of railroad rolling stock, tracks, and related equipment.
• Stabilizes equipment during unforeseen, emergency, or unusual situations to ensure guest and employee safety.
• Assists with various repairs and preventative maintenance duties under the direction of a mechanic.
• Provides guest service according to Six Flags standards, including initiating guest interactions and answering questions.
• Maintains cleanliness and safety in assigned work areas and reports unsafe or unusual conditions to supervision.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age.
• Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience in the mechanical maintenance industry.
• High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent required.
• Working knowledge of basic mechanical principles such as gear ratios and proper use of common hand tools.
• Familiarity with common types of bearings, bushings, couplers, shafting, and similar power transmission components.
• Demonstrable knowledge of the fundamental principles of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to work safely and effectively while elevated on ladders, platforms, or other structures at heights up to 300 feet.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holiday periods to meet business needs.
• Ability to pass a background check, which may include credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education, and personal references.
