Overview

We are seeking a motivated Engineer - Fire Protection to design, specify, and support fire protection and life-safety systems across industrial and commercial projects. The role focuses on developing compliant, cost-effective fire protection solutions, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams and external authorities, and providing technical support from concept through commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop fire protection and fire suppression system layouts, details and specifications to meet client requirements and applicable codes.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations, load analysis and system sizing for sprinkler, standpipe and special suppression systems.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, schematics, isometric plumbing diagrams, and shop drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation including calculations, equipment schedules, submittals, and as-built deliverables.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable standards and insurance requirements and coordinate approvals with AHJs and third-party inspectors.
  • Collaborate with project managers, mechanical/plumbing/electrical teams, contractors and vendors to integrate fire protection systems into overall project designs.
  • Provide field support during installation, testing and commissioning, troubleshoot system issues, and oversee corrective actions.
  • Participate in value engineering, constructability reviews, and cost estimating for fire protection scope.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control activities, including peer reviews and verification of contractor submittals.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drafters, and contribute to continuous improvement of standards and office procedures.

Requirements

  • Must have demonstrated experience and strong competency in Fire system engineering.
  • Bachelors degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of professional experience designing fire protection and suppression systems; experience on industrial or factory projects preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA, building codes, and Factory Mutual approval processes.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and experience with SolidWorks for creating schematics, isometrics and detailed drawings.
  • Experience preparing isometric plumbing drawings, piping schematics and equipment layouts.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing field issues during installation, testing and commissioning.
  • Familiarity with gas systems and gas piping design is a plus.
  • Experience with drafting best practices, producing clear shop drawings and coordinating with contractors.
  • NICET certification, Professional Engineer license, FM Approved Designer credential, or equivalent certifications are desirable but not mandatory.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
