Overview

This mid-level engineering position at Sargent & Lundy offers challenging opportunities in component qualification engineering, allowing collaboration with a team and the chance to guide less experienced members. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team of component qualification engineers.
  • Interface with engineers from other disciplines.
  • Guide the work of less experienced project team members.
  • Prepare and review design calculations.
  • Review test/analysis qualification reports from vendors.
  • Develop specifications and revise client design basis documents.
  • Support designers with drawing development.
  • Perform structural analysis and design of steel panels/cabinets and equipment supports.
  • Conduct seismic qualification activities by reviewing seismic test reports.
  • Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and plant site locations for construction coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in engineering degree with emphasis in Structural or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience related to component qualification activities in the nuclear power plant industry.
  • Proficiency with structural mechanics analysis using Mathcad software.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis using software such as SAP2000, ANSYS, STAAD, and/or STRUDL.
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards such as AISC, AISI, ASCE, ANSI and ASTM.
  • Familiarity with Regulatory Guides and IEEE Standards associated with Seismic Qualification.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
