The Stainless Steel Fitter/Welder is responsible for fitting, assembling, and welding stainless steel components according to blueprints, drawings, and fabrication specifications. This position requires strong fitting skills, accurate measurement, and the ability to produce clean, high-quality welds while maintaining proper alignment and dimensional tolerances. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Fit, align, assemble, and weld stainless steel components and fabricated assemblies. Perform MIG welding on stainless steel, depending on project requirements. Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and specifications. Measure, mark, position, and fit components prior to welding. Tack weld assemblies and verify dimensions, alignment, squareness, and tolerances before final welding. Prepare stainless steel surfaces by grinding, cleaning, beveling, and removing contaminants as necessary. Set and adjust welding equipment for proper amperage, voltage, wire speed, and shielding gas. Use grinders, saws, cutting equipment, clamps, squares, levels, and other fabrication tools. Inspect completed welds for quality, penetration, appearance, and conformity to specifications. Minimize distortion and warping during the welding process. Perform grinding and finishing of welded areas as required. Maintain a clean and safe fabrication work area. Follow all company safety, PPE, and quality-control procedures. Qualifications Previous experience as a Fitter/Welder, Fabricator/Welder, or Stainless Steel Welder preferred. Hands-on experience welding and fitting stainless steel. Ability to read a tape measure and accurately perform layout and fitting. Ability to read and work from blueprints and fabrication drawings. Knowledge of proper stainless steel welding and fabrication techniques. Ability to identify proper fit-up, gaps, joint preparation, and weld requirements. Must be comfortable using hand tools, power tools, grinders, and fabrication equipment. Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and work in fabrication positions for extended periods. Ability to lift and maneuver materials as required by the position. Preferred Skills MIG/GMAW stainless steel welding experience. Experience fabricating stainless steel frames, structures, tanks, equipment, piping, or custom assemblies. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain tight tolerances. Ability to complete a fit-up and welding test prior to placement.
