Overview

Electric Boat is the premier designer and builder of nuclear powered submarines for the US Navy and is experiencing a period of unprecedented growth. The company is looking for individuals who want to learn and grow within the Welding Department as they continue to build advanced submarines.

Responsibilities

  • Weld structural assemblies using GMAW and SMAW during fabrication and installation of submarine construction.
  • Use pneumatic tools such as grinders, burr tools, wire brushes, etc.
  • Perform oxy/fuel pre-heat and carbon/arc gouging as well as verify weld size using weld gauges.
  • Read and interpret weld symbols, technique sheets, and work packages.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a High School Diploma, GED, be a current High School Senior, OR have 2+ years of related technical experience.
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience to this job description.
  • Must be available to work any shift.
  • Ability to interpret welding and shipyard procedures, structural drawings, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams.
  • Knowledge and experience in Pipe Welding.

  • Must be able to work all shifts and in all environments, including Radiological areas of the boat.
  • Willing to accept road job assignments.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG and Stick work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. Stick (SMAW) burns a flux-coated consumable rod and needs no shielding gas, so it works in wind, rain, and on dirty or rusted steel.
