Overview

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for improving the physical plant through various construction projects involving multiple trades. This role requires a variety of skills and the ability to work independently on tasks related to building structures and utility systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform painting and coating work using accepted methods and techniques.
• Plan materials, tools, and techniques for painting tasks with minimal supervision.
• Mix, apply, and finish plaster surfaces for interior walls and ceilings.
• Construct, install, and repair wood and metal structures using skilled carpentry techniques.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, install, and balance HVAC systems and refrigeration systems.
• Install, maintain, and repair steam distribution systems and components.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and replace electrical systems including switches, outlets, and motors.

Requirements

• Must show evidence of training or experience relevant to the position.
• Ability to perform duties without more than normal supervision.
• Experience with equipment assembly, installation, and repair.
• Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprints.
• Knowledge of materials and technical practices related to maintenance work.
• Experience in volunteer work may be credited towards qualifications.
• Preferred 2-3 years of Union Journeyperson level experience in two of the following trades: Painting, Carpentry, Plumbing/Pipefitter, HVAC, Electrical.
