Overview

The Heating and Air Conditioning Maintainer position at New York City Transit involves maintaining, installing, inspecting, testing, altering, and repairing HVAC systems and equipment for the MTA. This full-time civil service role requires passing a civil service exam for permanent status.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, install, inspect, test, alter, and repair heating and air conditioning systems and equipment.
  • Work on air conditioners, compressors, condensers, evaporators, fans, motors, and electrical controls.
  • Repair boilers, furnaces, heaters, radiators, piping, pumps, and their electrical controls.
  • Solder and braze, keep records, write reports, and perform related work.
  • Perform physical activities such as lifting equipment, climbing ladders, and making visual inspections.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a four-year apprenticeship in HVAC systems recognized by relevant authorities.
  • Three years of full-time experience at the journey level in HVAC installation, repair, and maintenance.
  • Two years of experience at the journey level plus additional qualifying experience or education.
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English.
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Driver License in the State of New York.
