Overview

The Carpenter position at Thomas Jefferson University involves performing various carpentry duties to maintain the hospital's property and grounds, ensuring compliance with local building codes. The role is essential for keeping the hospital running smoothly and maintaining its appearance.

Responsibilities

  • Constructs, installs, finishes and maintains structures such as partitions, ceilings, floors, windows, doors, equipment, furniture, and other parts of the hospital building.
  • Joins materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives; works on stilts, ladders, and the top beams of buildings.
  • Prepares layouts of rooms and/or areas for renovations using blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions.
  • Takes measurements and calculates the size and amount of material needed.
  • Cuts, shapes and smoothes lumber and other materials according to measurements.
  • Ensures all carpentry work related to other trades is completed as per instructions.
  • Completes rounds to identify and resolve regulatory compliance deficiencies.
  • Assists with or performs other maintenance needs as directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional education and/or training required.
  • Previous related experience preferred.
  • Trade or vocational school graduate with courses in blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, mathematics, carpentry, and woodworking preferred.
